Less than a week after a fatal hit-and-run along Route 73 in Voorhees, police have arrested a 24-year-old Atco resident in connection with the crash.

Aaron Tart Jr. was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, third-degree endangering an injured victim, and fourth-degree tampering with evidence. Tart was taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility as he awaits a detention hearing in Superior Court.

Investigators allege that Tart was driving a Ford Fusion around 1:17 a.m. Oct. 25 when he struck and killed Md Maksudur Rahman, 71, while he rode his bicycle home from work at the 24-hour Harmony Diner. The cycling route along Route 73 was one that Rahman had taken regularly for years, his son, Mahmudur Rahman, said.

The Berlin resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the crash, Tart covered the vehicle and had the windshield replaced, according to police.

Police are still looking for a dark-colored midsize SUV, possibly a Honda Pilot, that they believe also struck Rahman that night and fled the scene.

Originally from Bangladesh, Rahman immigrated to the United States more than a decade ago, his son said, stopping briefly in New York before settling with his wife in Berlin in 2014.

In addition to his son, Rahman is survived by his wife, a daughter, and six grandchildren, Mahmudur Rahman said.

The Rahman family and local investigators are asking that any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident contact the police.
