Three-and-outs, missed tackle rate, other numbers to know ahead of Eagles-Jaguars
With Markel Bell replacing the retired Lane Johnson for the foreseeable future, can the Eagles protect Jalen Hurts better?

The Eagles fell to 2-2 Sunday after their second consecutive loss and second consecutive scoreless second half.
They then lost future Hall of Fame right tackle Lane Johnson to retirement on Tuesday and shipped Cam Jurgens to Baltimore for draft picks a day later.
Now, they head to London this weekend with a new-look offensive line while dealing with several key injuries for their Week 5 game against a Jacksonville Jaguars team that has won 11 of its last 12 regular-season games.
Here’s a look at some numbers that could play a part in the result:
97.2%
That’s Johnson’s pass block win rate, according to Pro Football Focus. The highest rate in the league. The Eagles legend is retiring at the top of the game.
But it’s also worth noting because that’s a big hole to fill. The Eagles have struggled up front collectively. Jalen Hurts has been under duress. The Eagles have allowed pressure on 43.2% of his dropbacks this season, according to Next Gen Stats, the third-highest rate in the NFL. The run blocking also hasn’t been consistent.

Rookie third-round pick Markel Bell, Johnson’s expected replacement for the foreseeable future, was thrust into a starting role for Week 4 when Johnson was a late scratch and allowed a team-high six pressures and three sacks, according to PFF.
Could a week of preparation put Bell in a better spot? Time will tell. The Eagles were 18-30 in the games Johnson missed over the years. It’s not a stat worth tracking anymore now that he retired, but they’ll be tested right away as they begin life without him.
15, 4
The Eagles are the 15, and the Jaguars are the 4. The number being tracked here is the number of three-and-outs through four games.
The Eagles are the worst in the NFL, according to Next Gen. The Jaguars are tied with four other teams with the fewest.
It’s not a sustainable number for the Eagles, who have struggled mightily on third down over the last two games and who through four games have struggled moving the ball in the third quarter.

The defense was forced to play 84 snaps Sunday while the offense was on the field for 61. On the year, the offense is tied for 29th in the league in total plays at 234.
It was hard to fault the defense for allowing a go-ahead touchdown Sunday. They were on the field a lot in the second half.
“I’m not going to insult your or anybody’s intelligence that, yeah, it has an effect, but we got to find a way to finish,” Vic Fangio said on Tuesday.
It’s not an issue isolated to this season. Since the start of the 2025 season, the Eagles have a three-and-out rate of 29.5%, the highest in the NFL, according to Next Gen.
17.9%
The Eagles have the fourth-highest missed tackle rate (17.9%) in the NFL, according to Next Gen.
They had nine missed tackles in Week 4 vs. Los Angeles after 11 in Week 3 and 12 in Week 2.
Next up: Bhayshul Tuten, a South Jersey native who has thrived making guys miss so far in 2026. Nearly half (49.9%) of Tuten’s 277 rushing yards have come after a missed tackle.
Tuten, who attended Paulsboro High, is elusive. According to Next Gen, he has reached 15 mph or more on a league-high 19 rushes (of 60 total).
7½
This space is usually reserved for advanced stats and on-field tidbits, but this is a point spread worth mentioning.
The line was as high as 7½ at FanDuel on Wednesday night and was Jaguars -7 at DraftKings.
The Eagles have been touchdown underdogs in a regular-season game just once in the Nick Sirianni era: Week 6 against Tampa Bay and Tom Brady in 2021, Sirianni’s first season.
The Eagles are on track to be underdogs for the third consecutive game for the first time since that 2021 season, when they opened the Sirianni era as underdogs in their first seven.
