A man who Philadelphia police shot Friday has died
Police said they shot the 37-year-old man after he pointed a weapon at officers.
A man who was shot multiple times by Philadelphia police officers has died, police said Saturday.
About 5:20 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun in West Philadelphia, police said.
When police arrived at the 5100 block of Funston Street in the Mill Creek section, they encountered a man holding a handgun to his head, Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said Friday at a news conference. Police secured the area while additional officers arrived.

Police attempted to talk with the 37-year-old man for about 15 minutes, Stanford said. But when the man pointed his gun at them, seven officers, including three supervisors, shot at him.
“Responding officers discharged their firearms, striking the male multiple times,” police said Saturday. The man was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police had responded earlier Friday to a domestic dispute involving the man and his significant other, Stanford said.
Police did not release the man’s name.
The responding officers will be placed on administrative duty while an internal investigation takes place, police said.
