The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning for the early morning hours of Sunday between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. for parts of the Philadelphia region.

Upper Bucks, western Montgomery and western Chester Counties, could see temperatures reach as low as 31 degrees Fahrenheit.

The freeze warning, which was issued on Saturday, is concentrated in the Lehigh Valley, adjacent areas of northern New Jersey and the Poconos, said Zack Cooper, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

In the areas expecting subfreezing temperatures, “there could be some frost development,” said Cooper, though he added that it’s not expected to be too widespread.

“Where the growing season is still active, [it] will represent an end to that if it does fall below freezing,” he said.

Philadelphia was under a severe thunderstorm watch on Friday and temperatures in the coming workweek could reach no more than the mid 60s during the day and be in the 40s in the evenings.
